About this project
In Term 4 2011 I started an amazing job as Composer in Residence for the International Grammar School, Sydney. As I did not know the students, or how well they could compose, I introduced them to a story to which they could compose themes, or leitmotifs, for its characters.
That story was The Happy Prince, written by Oscar Wilde in 1888.
By using free vector images in a 'Van-Gogh-esque' manner, this web resource was created with Tumult Hype by Samuel & Laura Wright.
The students who composed for this project had such a rich source of inspiration in Oscar Wilde's story that their work had to be presented
in an interactive medium, that enagaged listeners from start to finish.

Attached below are two scores from the students own sketchbooks.
Each student had to begin with their instrument and manuscript before
committing to a final version. These videos are from the notation software Sibelius and include ‘The Sick Boy in Bed,’ and ‘Going to Egypt.'
